Its mission is to support the innovation of companies by providing them with cutting-edge biotechnology expertise.
 |
Background
|
TransBIOTech is a non-profit corporation created in January 1999 as a result of the Cégep de Lévis-Lauzon’s desire to continue to play a leader in the field of biotechnology by providing services to companies and training. A good number of bio-industries and research centres employ technicians who graduated from the Cégep. As a result of the creation of the technology transfer college centre, the CEGEP was better able to meet companies’ technology development needs. When the centre was created, its scientific personnel used the CEGEP’s equipment park evaluated at over $10 million. In 2002, thanks to contributions by the Québec government and the Canada Foundation for Innovation, TransBIOTech equipped itself with a high level research complex that meets Health Canada’s containment level 2 standards. The centre also runs a laboratory animal facility, certified by the Canadian Council on Animal Care that houses high-tech equipment that enables the scientific personnel to perform applied research projects in molecular biology, immunology and analytical chemistry.
Since its creation, TransBIOTech has signed a number of cooperation agreements with the Istitut des Nutraceutiques et des Aliments (INAF) of Laval university, the Centre de recherche en biotechnologie marine (CRBM), the Centre québécois de valorisation des biotechnologies (CQVB), several CCTTs and the Canadian Technology Network (CTN).

The corporation must provide an activity report and an audited financial statement as evidence of the sane management of the public funds granted to it. It is familiar with funding organization requirements. To date, more than 100 funded projects have been carried out.
